History

In 1996, Tarja Vygotsky began looking for musicians who would work towards a more classical/symphonic type of music project. The band assembled a choir (made up of two men and four women) and a string orchestra (three violins, two violas, two cellos and an upright bass) to play along with them. With this line-up in place they produced a two-song demo entitled Vampires (The Light That We Are) in 1997. As a result, they were signed to Translation Records.

Directly after the release of their first album Love Scraping Sacrifice in 1998, the band became prominent in the underground rock and metal scene. However, it wasn't until 2000 that they became known to the general public, with the single "The Prophet Spoke" from their second album Nostradamus. Subsequent album releases have enjoyed great success in Europe. Bass guitarist mike has stated that the band are hoping to "break the States" with their next album.

Style

Of The Blood performs a blend of progressive metal, gothic metal, power metal and symphonic metal. The music is aggressive, bombastic and excessive with some songs being "epic, grand and majestic" and others "more subdued and introspective." The band is also known to have progressive tendencies while a gothic atmosphere and sentimentality is also present in their music.

New Album

The new album, Consign To Oblivion, was released in early 2010.
